Hakone Checkpoint Exhibition Hall

Hakone Checkpoint was founded in 1619 so that the Tokugawa shogunate could strengthen their defence. This hall, constructed according to various data in 1965, is a reproduction of Gobansho of Hakone Checkpoint. It exhibits about 1000 items including historical relics regarding the checkpoint and the old Hakone area.

At this museum visitors can learn about the life of the people who lived along the Old Tokaido Highway. A free rest station is also located here.

Museum of Historical Materials

In Hakone there were 3 major roads, "Hakonehachiri","Toujinomichi" and "Seikatsunomichi". These 3 roads as the main theme, materials regarding the life of people in Hakone and visitors in the Edo Period.
